"Astuto Mix asi Despide a Su Hijo en Un BAILE SONIDERO"

"What You Didn't Know About Astuto Mix": The Tragic Story of His Life On this occasion, we had the opportunity to talk with one of the most representative sound system operators in Nicolás Romero, Mr. Gerardo of Astuto Mix, who opened his heart to tell us a life story full of struggle, sacrifice, passion for music… and also one of the most difficult moments a father can experience. From a very young age, Gerardo had to learn what it meant to work hard to get ahead. He tells us that as a child he started working at whatever he could find: he was a construction worker, ran errands, worked in a grocery store, and always looked for ways to help out at home. His story wasn't easy, since he grew up without his father, who abandoned him when he was very young, so he, his mother, and his siblings had to face life alone. Over time, he began working in public transportation as a bus driver, collecting fares on minibuses, until he gradually became the driver of a minibus called "Astuto" (Sly). Unbeknownst to him at the time, that name would shape his future, because later it would become the name of his sound system: Astuto Mix. Gerardo tells us that his beginnings in the world of sound systems were very humble. He had a very small turntable, but even so, people began to notice his style and the way he worked with the music. Little by little, he started performing at events and dances, although at first he wasn't even the one speaking into the microphone, since he had someone else in charge of energizing the sound system. But about 15 years ago, that person stopped working with him… and that's when Gerardo had to face one of his biggest challenges: holding the microphone for the first time. With trepidation, nerves, and a great deal of embarrassment, he began to speak to the audience… without imagining that this moment would be the beginning of a new chapter that would make him one of the most beloved sound system operators in his neighborhood. His growth was gradual, fueled by hard work. He tells us that he started investing in audio equipment, trucks, and sound systems, although he often dreamed of taking his music to places like Puebla, Toluca, or Pachuca. However, at that time, his trucks couldn't handle such long journeys, preventing him from playing outside his area. Even so, the public embraced him, until he became one of the favorite sound systems in his neighborhood. Over time, big names in the sound system scene welcomed him and earned his respect within the movement, including: Ivone, La Changa, La Conga, Super Dengue, Sonoramico, Fania 97, Sonido Famoso, Sonido Pirata, Sonido Cóndor, Sonido Pancho, Sonido Barraco, Sonido La Clave, and many more. Gerardo tells us that he has always tried to stay out of trouble and respect all the sound system operators, expressing his gratitude for the support he has received over the years. But this interview also brings the most difficult and painful moment of his story… When we asked him about his son, Javi Guarachas, Gerardo recounted one of the hardest moments of his life. That day, he was working at an event while his son went out to run some errands. On the way, tragedy struck: his son was hit by a car on the highway. At first, his family tried not to alarm him and told him that his son was seriously injured, to which he replied that they should take him wherever necessary, that money didn't matter, that the important thing was that he survived. But minutes later, he received another call… The news no parent wants to hear. His son had died. At that moment, Gerardo was in the middle of a dance. The organizer asked him if he could end the event because there were already too many people gathered. But the pain was too great… so he only played one last song, said goodbye, and left immediately to go home and say goodbye to his son. A story that reminds us that behind every sound system, every piece of audio equipment, and every dance… there are stories of struggle, sacrifice, family, and also pain. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Gerardo of Astuto Mix for trusting us and sharing this important part of his life with everyone. If you enjoy the sound system scene and want to learn the real stories behind the music, this episode will touch your heart.
