This is the final installment of my journey through the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Japanese media and the internet often emphasize only dark images of Xinjiang, such as "surveillance society," "oppression," and "ban on the Uyghur language." However, by actually walking the streets of Urumqi, infiltrating bookstores, and observing the lives of the local people, I discovered a "real everyday life" that was completely different from what I had imagined. A vast number of children's books written in Uyghur, a large city where women can walk alone even at 11 pm, and the real testimonies of a Japanese solo traveler and a local university lecturer I met by chance— In the latter half of the journey, I will also share the breathtaking scenery of the beautiful Tianchi Lake in the Tianshan Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
