In this group, we have everything from heterotrophic unicellular beings to algae measuring tens of meters. At first glance, it may seem strange that these very distinct beings are classified within the same group. And, in fact, it is an arbitrary classification. This is because we say that the Kingdom of Protists is polyphyletic. In other words, the living beings found there do not have common ancestors, their origins are varied. Therefore, we consider that the classification of the Kingdom Protist is artificial. Within this Kingdom, roughly speaking, there are living beings that do not fit within the other Kingdoms.
