Post & Beam Revival | Ep. 2: What We Found During Demo
This 1961 post-and-beam midcentury modern ranch sat vacant for more than three years and was slated for demolition. Can we save it? In Episode 2, renovation designer and seasoned house flipper Nicole Nichols of Revival Designs shares what's happened during the first weeks of the project. We begin selective demolition, salvage original cabinetry and appliances for reuse, investigate what might be hiding beneath decades of renovations, and start developing the design plan for key spaces throughout the home. In this video, we'll answer questions like: Is there original wood hidden above the drywall ceiling? Is there brick behind the wallpapered fireplace? Which original features are worth saving--and which need to go? What are the plans for the kitchen, den, stairway? Those are from our 2023 Wedge Haus renovation—winner of the Cincinnati Preservation Association Residential Renovation Award. We included them to illustrate what we were hoping might be hiding beneath years of remodeling in this house.
