The Pescante de Hermigua is a historic and scenic landmark located in the town of Hermigua on the northeastern coast of La Gomera, Canary Islands. Originally constructed between 1907 and 1908, it served as a pier for exporting bananas and tomatoes to Europe. This structure was vital for the island’s economy in the early 20th century, as it facilitated trade before modern ports and roads were developed. The pier featured a steam engine and an iron arm supported by stone columns, which allowed goods to be loaded onto ships anchored offshore. Today, the Pescante de Hermigua is no longer operational but remains a striking historical site. Its four towering stone columns stand as remnants of its industrial past. The area has been transformed into a natural attraction, featuring two swimming pools: one calm and protected from ocean waves, and another more rugged, offering direct interaction with the Atlantic’s powerful surf. These pools are popular for swimming and enjoying the dramatic coastal scenery. Visitors can access the site by car or on foot from Hermigua village.
