Laurie says she prayed approximately 24 hours a week, fasted, preached the gospel, served the poor, and regularly led people to Jesus. She was convinced she was going to heaven. But there was one thing she refused to do: Forgive. On August 28, 2008, Laurie was helping lead an evangelism meeting when she suddenly felt unbearable heat during worship. She says the gates of hell appeared in front of her. A hand rushed through them, grabbed her, and dragged her down the center aisle. Laurie remembers thinking: “You have the wrong girl.” She says she was pulled through massive rock gates and placed inside a teardrop-shaped cell. Then she heard: “You are in hell eternally for unforgiveness.” Although almost no time appeared to pass on Earth, Laurie says the experience felt like 70 years. She describes black fire, melting skin, complete dehydration, suffocating fumes, constant screaming, and total isolation. Every happy memory disappeared. There was no peace, comfort, sleep, water, or escape. At one point, Laurie heard a woman screaming uncontrollably. Then she realized the screaming woman was herself. Laurie also says she was placed in a section of hell containing people who believed they were Christians but had refused to obey Christ or genuinely repent. She says her sins appeared before her: “You are not kind.” “You are not gentle.” “You are not patient.” Laurie was shown the times others had hurt her, followed by the far greater number of times she had hurt others. She says she finally understood the warning Jesus gave in Matthew 18 about the servant who was forgiven an enormous debt but refused to forgive someone else. After what felt like 70 years, Laurie suddenly returned to the worship meeting screaming. She says a demon warned her: “If you tell anyone this, I will take you back to hell.” Then an angel told her: “You are responsible for a billion souls.” When Laurie returned, she could not remember her name, birthday, mother, husband, or children. She became terrified of shadows and repeatedly cried: “I don’t want to go back to hell.” Laurie says she remained mentally unstable for six days and struggled physically and emotionally for approximately 30 months. She now teaches that forgiveness does not mean pretending an offense was acceptable. It does not mean trusting the person again, restoring the relationship, or removing healthy boundaries. Forgiveness means releasing the debt to God so bitterness does not continue controlling your life. Her warning is simple: The most dangerous sin may be the one you refuse to repent of.
