Bennett-Schmidt Higher Aim of Art Lecture - Patricia Watwood: The Spatial Visual Imagination

The Italians called it “Disegno.” They considered it practically God-like, the artist’s ability to create entire worlds out of pigment and stone. What does “Disegno” mean in the modern academy and how can we fully develop our spatial visual imagination? Looking at past influences and sharing her studio process, artist Patricia Watwood will discuss the spatial visual imagination—the elements of composition, invention, and conceptualization that are essential to today’s figurative narrative compositions. Watwood earned her MFA in figurative art with Honors from New York Academy of Art and studied with Jacob Collins as a founding member of the Water Street Atelier. Watwood has been an adjunct professor of drawing at New York Academy of Art, has given lectures and workshops across the country, and is a featured art instructor with Craftsy.com. She has written articles for American Artist, American Arts Quarterly, and Fine Art Connoisseur. Watwood has earned many awards, received recognition as an Art Renewal Center “Living Master,” and in addition to receiving honor awards in their annual salons, she has been an ARC finalist.
