Exclusive Preview for Newsletter Subscribers 1 March 2022 BJ has a look at 3 types of chrome paint from Alclad, SMS and Green Stuff World. These chromes are designed for airbrush application and work best over a high gloss black base. The base preparation governs the final effect of the chrome so it is very important to have the base as mirror finish as possible before the chrome paint is applied. The airbrush compressor was set at 18 psi but since filming, a lower pressure works better at around 10 psi. Alclad is a lacquer based paint leaving a strong odour. Good ventilation is important. SMS and Green Stuff World are alcohol based and have a very low odour. Alclad appears to have a finer and more transparent base needing additional coats to match the brightness of the SMS and Green Stuff World chromes. On close inspection, the Alclad achieves the best reflection quality although both SMS and Green Stuff World chromes are very close on finish.
