The Jewish WWII Assassin You Probably Don't Know About: Irven Hammerman | Living St. Louis
To most people, Irven Hammerman was your average WWII veteran. He told his family that he was a medic, but Hammerman was actually a skilled assassin. Hammerman was chosen for this role because of his intelligence, athletic skill, and language fluencies. He was sent to an intensive training overseas, and given a mission to eliminate certain SS and Gestapo officers. In the end, he would assassinate 10 of his targets. As a Jewish man, he was instrumental in eliminated many officers directly involved in the Holocaust. He told no one about his true work during the war for decades.
