Instagram @13sher_singh Raag Darbari Kanra is one of the most revered raags in Hindustani Shastri Sangeet. The story of the inception of Raag Darbari Kanra goes back to the time of Miyan Tansen and King Akbar. On one evening while reciting Raag Kanra, a raag that is also found in the sacred scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Miyan Tansen started giving an almost heart wrenching yet seemingly circular emphasis on the Komal Ga and the Komal Dha. Such an emphasis led to a display of several gut wrenching emotions from the raag which could almost be defined as divine supplication, prayer, pleading, sorrow and more. After listening to this unique rendition of Raag Kanra by Miyan Tansen, Akbar decided to call this form of Raag Kanra as 'Darbari Kanra'. Make no mistake in taking Raag Darbari Kanra as a mere raag as the masters of the old days used to tell their students to publically recite or play this raag at a very old age so as to ensure that it's serious emotions are aptly conveyed to the musical conneseurs. By attepting to play this raag which I admit is not the best version, I make a humble attempt at trying to share the emotions that I feel whilst playing Darbari Kanra to all my friends, viewers and listeners.
