Prof. Weir-McCall is Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at King’s College London (Department of Radiology) and Royal Brompton Hospital. He is a passionate advocate for advanced cardiac CT and MRI, with deep expertise in leveraging big data, national datasets, and artificial intelligence to improve patient outcomes in coronary artery disease and structural heart conditions. He has played a key role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of national AI-enabled programmes in the UK NHS — most notably the landmark FISH&CHIPS study and the 2025 Nature Medicine publication demonstrating the real-world safety and efficiency of AI (FFR-CT) deployed at scale across NHS hospitals, which significantly reduced unnecessary invasive procedures and repeat testing without compromising patient safety.
