The Argosy Project – Building Red Tow’s Next Multi-Purpose Heavy Tow & Crane Truck

In this video, we take you behind the scenes of The Argosy Project — Red Tow’s next custom-built heavy recovery and transport truck. This Freightliner Argosy 8x4 is being developed into a true multi-purpose unit: a Prime Mover, a Crane Truck, and an Underlift Tow Truck — all in one. We explain the configuration we selected, why we mounted a PM 40-ton-metre knuckle-boom crane directly behind the cabin, and how this setup gives us maximum flexibility for container transport, heavy salvage, and recovery operations across Victoria. Once complete, this Argosy will be our “Jolly Joker” — capable of towing, craning, or hauling the SuperTilt trailer as required. From lifting heavy machinery to recovering loaded semis or positioning portable buildings, this truck will handle it all.
