Chalk Talk with Prof. Ajit Chaturvedi, EE, IIT Kanpur

Chalk Talk is a short conversation with a teacher about their teaching methods. In this video, the teacher shares how they prepare for classes, what they do inside the classroom, and how they support students beyond class hours. The discussion focuses on real classroom experiences, teaching style, and tips for effective learning. Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi received B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1986, 1988, and 1995 respectively. In 1999, he moved to Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur where he became Professor (HAG) in August 2012 and held the Sanjay and Rachna Pradhan Chair Professorship. A passionate teacher, he was conferred the Distinguished Teacher Award of IIT Kanpur and also the INSA Teachers' award. UG and PG students of the EE department have long admired his teaching of several fundamental courses in the area of Communications. He has contributed immensely to IIT Kanpur in several important leadership roles, such as the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Dean of Research & Development and Deputy Director. Prof. Chaturvedi served IIT Roorkee as its Director from January 2017 to October 2022. During this period he also served as the Director of IIAS Shimla (January 2017 to August 2018) and Director of IIT Mandi (July 2020 to January 2022). He has recently been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. He is a recipient of the Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship of Nanyang Technical University, Singapore.
