Seven conversations will take place in the Refectory Hall to discuss books that challenge the ideology of love. The dialogue will emerge from reading, returning the text to its author. Resisting reading as individual consumption at the service of a domineering knowledge, we will use writing as a technology that rebels against private obedience and collective submission. It will be about not reading and remaining silent, but reading and sharing. We will seek to empower subversive intimacy and realize powerful love. March 25, 2022 ‘Love is Us’ María Acaso read Brigitte Vasallo’s ‘Monogamous Thought: Polyamorous Terror’ twice, underlining it so much and so fruitfully that her photos are the image of our series. The encounter between reader and writer sparked a flurry of notebooks, pens, conversations, and affection. We wove a “network” of affection, the kind Brigitte envisions in her book. Language articulating body and society, the book freeing itself from the private, from the one-on-one, and building community. Brigitte Vasallo is a writer who stumbles along, a “feminist” in quotation marks, a bastard thinker by choice, and a charnega by birth. Without a university education, she has worked as a waitress, a sailor, a cleaner, and a contributor to media outlets such as Catalunya Radio, Pikara Magazine, elcritic.cat, and La Directa. Her first novel, PornoBurka, had a foreword by Juan Goytisolo, and the newspaper Ara included it in its list of ‘Catalan Philosophy in 12 Names’. She has published ‘Monogamous Thought.
