DEUTSCHLAND: Eklat um CDU-Mann! Jetzt bricht Jens Spahn sein Schweigen! Und Merz lässt aufhorchen!

GERMANY: Scandal surrounding CDU member! Jens Spahn breaks his silence! And Merz makes headlines! The Chancellor wants to discuss the Jens Spahn affair with the CDU executive committee. This will likely happen next week. The CDU executive committee will convene for its next regular meeting on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and is expected to address the issue of parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn, who has come under pressure because of his parenthood through a surrogate mother in the USA. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) stated at a press conference in the afternoon following the Franco-German government meeting in Brühl that the party's top body would be addressing the matter. According to a parliamentary group spokesperson, Spahn himself will attend the meeting, which is usually chaired by party leader Merz. Spahn has not been a member of the committee since the party conference in February – however, he generally participates in the meetings as parliamentary group leader. Health Minister Jens Spahn and his husband, Daniel Funke, announced on Wednesday that they had become parents. A surrogate mother in the US gave birth to the baby. This sparked a controversial debate because surrogacy is not permitted in Germany, and Spahn's party is clearly opposed to legalization. Daniel Peters, the CDU leader in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, has called for Spahn's resignation as chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. "By using surrogacy in the US, Spahn deliberately disregarded German law," Peters, who also sits on the CDU's federal executive committee, told Bild. The opposition also accuses Spahn of double standards. Spahn himself has left the decision about his political future in office to the members of the CDU and CSU parliamentary group. "I will, of course, discuss the question of how to proceed with the parliamentary group when we meet again in September," the CDU politician told Bild. When asked about a possible resignation, Spahn said on the "Ronzheimer" podcast: "Ultimately, only the parliamentary group can decide how things proceed." The first regular parliamentary group meeting after the summer recess will take place on September 8 – two days after the important state election in Saxony-Anhalt. #germany #spahn #merz #weltnewschannel 🔔 Subscribe to our WELT-TV news channel!    / weltvideotv   Our YouTube channels: 📺 WELT DOKU    / @weltdoku   ⚽ WELT SPORT    / @welt-sport   🚀 WELT SPACE    / @weltspace   🛣️ WELT DRIVE    / @weltdrive   🪖 WELT HISTORY    / @welthistory   🍝 WELT FOOD    / @welt.food-rezepte   WELT News Live Stream http://bit.ly/2fwuMPg Our Top News on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2rQQD9Q Our Media Library on WELT.de http://bit.ly/2Iydxv8 WELT TV on Instagram   / welt.nachrichtensender   WELT on Instagram   / welt   Due to numerous offensive comments, comments are currently disabled.
