The Development of Old English Conjunct Clauses
This is a video recording of the talk "The development of Old English conjunct clauses: How syntactic changes interact," which I delivered at Cambridge Linguistics Forum on 2 February 2022. It explains how Early English (c. 800-1200) main clauses introduced by a conjunction like "and" show special behaviour in terms of verb position and topicalisation and how the different clause types interact with changes in these syntactic properties. This is research in the area of diachronic syntax, Old English word order, historical corpus linguistics, formal syntax. To find out more about my research, go to www.richardzimmermann.com
