First, prepare a dull machete or knife, then prepare a coarse whetstone and a fine whetstone for finishing. First, sharpen the machete or knife using a coarse whetstone. Sharpen it back and forth until it touches the blade. Once the blade feels sharp, finally sharpen one section on the right side. Don't sharpen it back and forth. Just sharpen one section until the burr on the blade appears thin and sticks evenly. Next, sharpen it using a fine whetstone with a 1000-6000 grit. Sharpen it back and forth until the burr on the blade disappears. Once the burr is gone, sharpen it slowly, back and forth, keeping it on the blade to maximize the sharpness of the knife or machete.
