New Electric Arc Furnace - A Brief Overview

This video gives a quick tour of our new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) with particular emphasis on its features and capabilities including: A jet box used to inject oxygen and carbon simultaneously while the power is on. The jet box is also equipped with a natural gas burner which allows for the preheating of scrap in the furnace to reduce melt times and leading to power savings. A hydraulically driven slag door which is a water-cooled steel plate. This new design allows greater access to look at the arcs as they happen and to see how foaming slag is occurring the EAF. A carbon feed hopper and material feed hopper. The video also includes a testimonial from Cocoon who have been using our facilities to test prototype technology This new EAF will allow us to undertake the development of new steels and slags, as well as production of specialist steels.
