Rescuing the Unvalued: How Oltalet Center Gives Hope to Maasai Girls & Widows

“In Maasai culture, a girl child is just to be married off so that dowry or wealth can be acquired... We want to change that.” Welcome to the Altalete Rescue Center in Kajiado County, Kenya. Founded in 2012 by Reverend Joyce Mometa, Altalete (meaning "A Strong Tower") is a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing orphaned children, empowering young girls through education, and supporting widows facing immense cultural and economic hardships. In this video, take a tour of our center, meet some of the resilient girls currently being sponsored, and hear firsthand accounts of the challenges Maasai widows endure. You will also learn about our future vision, including completing a 70-bed dormitory, setting up vocational training (sewing, baking, hairdressing), and launching sustainable irrigation farming. 🌍 How You Can Help: Altalete relies entirely on a small circle of donors and passionate mentors. We are currently seeking helping hands to finish our dormitory, construct a kitchen/dining hall, and secure consistent food and school fees for the children crying out for help.
