Or the promise that an extraordinarily complex machine will remain safe and productive long after today’s owners and executives are gone? In this video, we break down the real economics of owning a nuclear power plant—from reactor construction, financing, licensing, operators, engineers, security forces, fuel assemblies, refueling outages, turbines, cooling systems, insurance, maintenance, and wholesale electricity markets to spent-fuel storage, decommissioning trusts, license extensions, clean-energy credits, and regulatory cost recovery.
