Operation Blue Star was an Indian military operation which occurred between 1 June and 6 June 1984, ordered by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to remove militant religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his militant armed followers from the Golden Temple comples. This is a past that has still not been buried, whose aftermath continues to linger on. This is a memory, the fragments of which still torment the collective conscience of a religious community. The spectre of horror, killings, chest-thumping and sacrilege has still not been exorcised and every year, the demon comes alive to torment and traumatise millions. The wounds have not yet healed and perhaps they never will.
