Love everyone. Trust no one. These two ideas seem to fight each other. They do not. One is your heart. The other is your sword. We lose both when we separate them. We are taught that love means giving everything. It does not. Love means seeing others as real. But reality has a ground, a substratum beneath all giving and taking. That ground is your own being. We can feed the hungry and still say no to the one who drains us. That is not coldness. That is honesty. The mind wants to make love into weakness. Reality does not.
