Many claim to want this, but I need only point at the laundry list of small hatchbacks which have been discontinued in Canada due to lack of interest. Fiesta, Fit, Micra, Mirage, Spark, and Yaris were all simple, affordable, hatchbacks which provided basic transportation. But that isn’t what buyers actually want. What they actually want is something like the 2026 Nissan Kicks. Show someone any one of those now-dead small hatchbacks and they’ll say that although the hatch is fine, they want something a little larger, with a few additional luxuries, and with a bit more power and capability. The new 2026 Nissan Kicks is barely recognizable from its first-generation predecessor. The joyful and jaunty atomic frog styling has been replaced with a much more sober motif reflective of Nissan’s current corporate styling. The little Kicks is looking much more grown up!
