Real time audio synthesis of vehicle engine noise
This video presents gSynthCreator, a tool for creating sound grains of complex harmonic signals like car engine noise. The approach is based on granular synthesis, an audio synthesis technique which provides very realistic rendering at a low CPU cost. Granular synthesis takes a recorded signal slowly spanning the range of operation of a given noise source. The signal is then analyzed and broken into short sound samples to create the grain database. Each sample is associated with a specific value of the control parameter, e.g. engine speed. During synthesis, the samples are reassembled in real time according to the variation of the control parameter. With gSynthCreator, the user will first construct the sound grain database and then evaluate the quality of the synthesis by listening to the original and synthesized signal. Among its activities, the CSTB works with various companies on realistic 3D audio rendering of simulated complex sound environments: http://recherche.cstb.fr/en/services/...
