GIZ: Improving the Local Edible Oil Quality and fostering its Consumption in Northern Ethiopia. 2019

The objective of the Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Project (NSAP) is to improve the nutrition of families, especially women and their children under 2 years. To diversify their diet and improve the quality of cooking oil, the NSA Project has trained 1200 households in oil processing. The technique applied is the extraction of edible oil by using a hand-operated oil mill. To prevent dependency on seeds from outside sources, the farmers cultivate their own seeds for oil processing. The oil mills are produced in cooperation with a local company. That way farmers have access to the mill. Furthermore, the local production of the oil mills contribute to local economic development.
