The FORM and FUNCTION of Music in Corporate Worship

I got to sit down with a good friend and colleague, David Morton, who is the Pastor of Worship and Discipleship at Rileyville Baptist Church, Rileyville, VA. David is extremely well-read, and through it all, the Lord has given him a pastor's heart that truly desires corporate worship to be a practice of spiritual formation. Even though this podcast is titled The Theology of Music, I don't think I've ever done an episode in which we've discussed the biblical roots of the purpose of music in corporate worship or otherwise. Why did God create music, and how was it used in Scripture? Is any of this applicable to us today in the context of the 21st-century American church? Here, we discuss the ideas of FORM and FUNCTION from a biblical perspective. I pray this episode reminds listeners of the importance of making music to and about God, both individually and corporately.
