Inside Enugu State Nigeria

Enugu State is located in the Southeastern part of Nigeria. The city derives its name from the various hill and mountains that surround the capital city, hence the literal meaning of the name Enu Ugwu which means the top of the hill. The state is also known as a coal city because coal was mined from the state during the colonial period. It recorded that the first European settlers arrived in the state in 1909 and by 1914 the first shipment of coal was transported to Britain. It is also the only state in Nigeria that has popularized its dialing code 042, which has become the city's iconic code name.
