According to a legend, earlier there was only a temple of Shiva at this place. A long time ago, a sage came here and said that there was divine power in this place. Then, while digging this place, an idol of Machhenarayan was found. After the idol was found, the locals established a temple and started worshipping it. Now, there are idols of various gods and goddesses in this Matsyanarayan temple. In addition, there is a huge form of Lord Bishnu at this place. In the incarnation of Shri Krishna, during the Kurukshetra war of the Mahabharat, an idol of the world form that Lord Shree Krishna showed to Pandav prince Arjuna was also established. Now this place is known as Gokuldham. Now we go down some stairs from the motor road towards the temple. There are 64 Shivlings on the left side of the entrance of Matsyanarayan. Going down the stairs. On the left side is the idol of Shree Ganeshji and a little ahead on the left side is the idol of Lord Shree Krishna in the form of Virat. Straight ahead is the temple of Machhenarayan and on the right is the temple of Shiva Panchayan. On the right side of the Shiva Panchayan is the Bhajan Mandal and in the courtyard behind the temple, the idols of Palanchok Bhagwati and Saraswati Mata have been installed. Its name came from Matsyanarayan, an avatar of the god Bishnu. It is said that during ancient times, Manu found a small fish about to die while he was having a bath in a river. He brought the fish to his home and put it into a small pot of water. The next day, the fish grew in its size amazingly and no longer fit in the small pot. So he put the fish in a pond just to find the next day that the fish had grown larger and no longer fit in the pond as well. Knowing that this fish is no ordinary fish, Manu bowed with respect and asked to show the fish who he was. Then god Bishnu emerged from the mouth of the fish. To remember this event, Manu established a Matsyanarayan temple in the center of the pond.
