One such individual identified as the "Almighty Sarlacc" lived in the Great Pit of Carkoon, a depression of sand within Tatooine's Dune Sea, and served as one of Jabba the Hutt's favorite pets and a means of execution. Sarlaccs behaved in a manner similar to Sea Anemones, where they would draw their prey into their mouths and digest them over a long period of time. Being eaten and trapped inside one of these thing was considered by many to be a fate worse than death.
