Preparation for the holy divine mystery of the confession of St. John of Kronstadt: I, a sinful soul, confess to the Lord our God and Savior Jesus Christ all my evil deeds that I have done, said or thought from baptism to this day. I have not kept the vows of my baptism, but have made myself undesirable in the sight of God. I have sinned before the Lord through lack of faith and doubts about the Orthodox faith and the holy church; through ingratitude for all the great and unceasing gifts of God; His long-suffering and His providence for me, a sinner; through lack of love for the Lord, as well as through fear due to failure to fulfill the holy commandments of God and the canons and rules of the Church. I have not preserved my love for God and my neighbor, and I have not made sufficient effort through laziness and lack of care to study God’s commandments and the commandments of the Holy Fathers. I have sinned: by not praying in the morning and evening and during the day; by not attending services or coming to Church only half-heartedly, lazily and carelessly; by talking during services, not paying attention, allowing my mind to wander and leaving the Church before the absolution and blessing. I have sinned by condemning members of the clergy. I have sinned by not respecting holidays, breaking fasts, and being intemperate in food and drink. I have sinned through my importance, disobedience, self-will, righteousness and the desire for approval and praise. I have sinned through unbelief, lack of faith, doubts, despair, despondency, offensive thoughts, blasphemy and swearing. I have sinned by pride, high opinion of myself, narcissism, vanity, arrogance, envy, love of praise, love of honor. I have sinned by: judgment, malicious gossip, anger, remembering insults done to me, hatred and returning evil for evil; slander, reproaches, lies, cunning, deceit and hypocrisy; prejudice, disputes, stubbornness and unwillingness to yield to one's neighbor; mockery, anger, insults and mockery; gossip, too much talk and idle talk. I have sinned by unnecessary and excessive laughter, contempt and dwelling on my previous sins, arrogant behavior, arrogance and lack of respect. I have sinned by not restraining my physical and spiritual passions, by indulging in impure thoughts, by debauchery and obscenity in thought, word and deed. I have sinned by not enduring my illnesses and sorrows, by being devoted to the comforts of life and by being too attached to my parents, children, relatives and friends. I have sinned by hardening my heart, by having a weak will and not forcing myself to do good. I have sinned by being stingy, by loving money, by acquiring unnecessary things and by being excessively attached to things. I have sinned by self-justification, by ignoring the promptings of my conscience and by being unable to acknowledge my sins due to negligence or false pride. I have sinned many times in my Confession: by belittling, justifying and keeping silent about sins. I have sinned against the Most Holy Mysteries of the Body and Blood of our Lord, having come to Holy Communion without humility and the fear of God. I have sinned in deed, word and thought, consciously and unconsciously, willingly and unwillingly, thoughtfully and thoughtlessly, and it is impossible to enumerate all my sins because of their multitude. But I truly repent of these and all others that I have not mentioned due to my forgetfulness, and I ask that they be forgiven through the great Mercy of God. To Salvation! Fr. Stepan
