The Hero's Journey Debunked
The infamous Hero's Journey you know and love by Joseph Campbell is probably not even written by Campbell. If you think the Hero's Journey or "monomyth" follows 12 steps, beginning with "The hero is introduced to his or her familiar world," then you're following a fake version, and don't even know it. What you're following is a memo written by a studio executive in 1985, that influenced every single movie made since then, and it's not even right. This video discusses how Christopher Vogler influenced all of Hollywood with one simple memo that no one bothered to fact-check.
