Idwal Staircase and Continuation: A Fun Scramble at Grade 2+

Here I take advantage of the recent dry weather and go for a scramble up Idwal Staircase and onto the continuation up to Seniors Ridge. I parked on the A5 and Lake Idwal is only a short trek away. I took the path clockwise around the lake to the base of the Staircase, which is next to the smooth slabs that are popular with climbers. The staircase was fairly dry and as such, I found it straightforward to scramble up - it won't be in the winter or after rain. The wide, curling roof overhang is its most interesting feature and keeps scramblers cool and protected from the sunlight. The second section, the "continuation", is over slabby and occasionally steep and exposed rock where some navigational skills will prevent the scrambler from drifting onto steeper climbing terrain nearby. In mist or rain, the rock will likely lose much of its grip so this section is best tackled on a dry day and preferably in the afternoon.
