"Une erreur féconde du mathématicien Henri Poincaré" par Jean-Christophe Yoccoz

Jean-Christophe Yoccoz recounts how Henri Poincaré won the prize awarded by King Oscar of Sweden and Norway for founding the journal "Acta Mathematica." His paper, "On the Three-Body Problem and the Equations of Dynamics," received unanimous praise from the jury, and as it was being printed and distributed, a young mathematician, Lars Phragmen, pointed out that some of his points were unfounded. Poincaré had to revise his paper, adding 90 pages and discreetly retrieve the copies already distributed to avoid damaging the fledgling journal's reputation. BnF - April 13, 2005. Lecture given as part of the series "One Text, One Mathematician," organized by the French Mathematical Society (SMF), the National Library of France (BnF), and Animath. Produced by: BnF, Paris
