Heating Loving Plant Haul & Adding Evergreen Contrast! 🌿
Hey y’all! Thanks for dropping by the garden today. I’m so excited to show off my newest plant babies! Starting off, I picked up Everillo Carex. This beautiful, shade-tolerant grass adds evergreen texture in my mild Gulf Coast climate. I find it to be incredibly easy to grow, dependable, and a wonderful contrast against broader-leaved plants. Next is a brand-new plant for me: Glow Stick Japanese Holly. Its vibrant new growth stopped me in my tracks at the garden center. I knew it had to have a place in my garden! If you’ve grown this one before, I’d love to hear your experience or any care tips in the comments. Moving along, I picked up another trusty tractor seat plant (Farfugium). These shade lovers have incredible foliage and produce cheerful yellow blooms later in the season. I’ve had trouble establishing a drift in the past, but here’s hoping round two is the charm! This next plant means so much to me personally. Every time I see a Rose of Sharon, I’m reminded of my late grandmother. This cultivar, Purple Pillar, is relatively new, but its beautiful purple blooms remind me of the one she planted years ago at my childhood home. It grows up to about 16 feet tall while staying only around 5 feet wide, making it a fantastic choice for smaller suburban gardens. I truly hope this plant becomes one of the stars of my landscape. Of course, I couldn’t leave the garden center without a little seasonal color! I picked up some Angelonia, Vinca, and Strawflowers. Be sure to subscribe so you can follow along and see where they end up in the garden! Finally, I brought home a new elephant ear called Portora. This stunning alocasia develops dramatically oversized, ruffled leaves that create a bold tropical look. I can’t wait to tuck it into one of my borders and watch it fill out. Thanks again for stopping by the garden today! I appreciate every one of you, and I’ll see you in the next one. Happy gardening! 🌿
