We follow the rise of the Song dynasty, the development of the Chinese economy, the great cities, paper, printing, currency, the compass, and gunpowder. Then we see how China faced the threats of the Jurchen and the Mongols, culminating in the fall of the Song and the establishment of the Mongol Yuan dynasty. In the final part of the series, we reach the end of the Chinese empire with the 1911 revolution and the fall of the Qing dynasty. We tell the story of the last Chinese emperor, Puyi, the child who ascended the throne at a young age, then went from being an emperor in the Forbidden City to a figurehead ruler under the Japanese, then a prisoner of the Soviets, and finally an ordinary citizen in communist China. This is not just a story of dynasties and wars, but the story of a civilization that spanned thousands of years, creating philosophy, paper, gunpowder, and printing, and witnessing its greatest periods of prosperity and division, power and collapse, until it reached the end of the last Chinese emperor.
