She was one of the victims of a military operation that took place in Tenoti Village, Kembru District, Puncak Regency, Papua Mountains, on Tuesday (April 14, 2026). Anite reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, which caused her to lose her voice. When met on Saturday (April 18), Anite was assisted by her brother, A. Miras Kogoya, in explaining the chronology of events. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. WIT, when Anite had just woken up. She heard indiscriminate gunfire around the honai (house), accompanied by the sound of helicopters circling overhead. With her family, Anite attempted to escape, but was shot right in front of her house. Through Miras Kogoya's translation, Anite explained that there were no warning signs at the time of the incident. The troops reportedly entered silently and launched an attack while some residents were still sleeping and others were just waking up. The sound of gunfire was heard everywhere, including from the air. After being shot, Anite tried to escape by hiding in the bushes. She held out for several hours while waiting for help, but no one came. In pain, she finally decided to come out of hiding. Looking around, Anite found no one, only her pets lying around. She then walked to the Giningame Village Office and encountered a small child and her father, who also had a leg wound. They then decided to leave Tenoti on foot for Tigineri. After spending the night in Tigineri, the next day, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, they were picked up by an ambulance and taken to Mulia, Puncak Jaya Regency. Subsequently, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, Anite was referred to Jayapura for further treatment. Meanwhile, Anite's father, Dies Telenggen, expressed regret over the shooting incident that befell his daughter. He stated that Tenoti Village was inhabited only by civilians and that there were no armed group members or weapons in the area. Dies considered this incident a human rights violation. According to him, the Kembru and Pogoma districts are now empty, abandoned by residents. He hopes that the local and provincial governments can coordinate to withdraw the officers, as their presence has caused casualties and forced residents to flee their hometowns.
