[Anchor] We recently reported that a university's Department of Aviation Operations in Gangwon Province is facing educational setbacks, including the suspension of flight training, due to conflicts with external training institutions. As the department has failed to comply with the government's recommendations for corrective action, there is even talk of the possibility that it could be shut down. Reporter Lee Sang-hyun reports. [Reporter] The Department of Aviation Operations at a university in Gangwon Province received an 18-day suspension of flight training from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last March. This was because the university violated its license as a specialized educational institution, which was granted on the condition that it utilize contracted outsourced training institutions due to the university's lack of its own flight facilities. The school has been conducting flight training at a different location since August of last year, citing the outsourced institution's poor quality of education. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport repeatedly recommended that the school either use the existing training institution or terminate the contract through mutual agreement and use a different one, but the school failed to comply. Ultimately, following the suspension of flight training, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently imposed an additional fine amounting to 100 million won, but the university is raising objections. They argue that the responsibility is being shifted solely onto the university. [University Official] "We strongly demand that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport present a reasonable solution to the current situation from an objective perspective and take immediate and decisive administrative measures, such as approving alternative educational institutions." The problem is that the students are suffering the most in this process. Since the second half of last year, the program has not been recognized as a professional education course; consequently, students are paying tuition while bearing the same costs and flight hours as the general public. There are concerns that if this continues, the department could disappear entirely. A Ministry official stated, "If the situation is not rectified even after the fine, we are considering the permanent expulsion of the university's flight training program." Students are expressing their anxiety. [Parent of a Student in the Department] "They are worried about whether things should continue this way, and whether graduating from this school might actually be much more unfair for their employment prospects."
