أبو حذيفة بن عتبة

The great martyr, Abu Hudhayfah ibn Utbah ibn Rabi'ah ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf ibn Qusayy ibn Kilab al-Qurashi al-Abshami al-Badri. [p. 165] One of the early converts to Islam, his name was said to be Mahsham. He embraced Islam before they entered Dar al-Arqam and emigrated to Abyssinia twice. There, he had Muhammad ibn Abi Hudhayfah, the one who rebelled against Uthman ibn Affan. She was born to him by Sahlah bint Suhayl ibn Amr, who suffered from prolonged menstrual bleeding. She was married to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and she was the one who breastfed Salim when he was an adult, so that she would be considered his mother. This ruling was specific to them according to the majority of scholars. On the authority of Abu al-Zinad, it is reported that Abu Hudhayfa ibn Utba challenged his father to single combat on the day of Badr. His sister, Umm Mu'awiya Hind bint Utba, said: [p. 166] “The cross-eyed, snot-eyed, and disgraced Abu Hudhayfa is the worst of people in religion. Did you not thank your father who raised you from childhood until you reached a youth without restraint?” He said: Abu Hudhayfa was tall, handsome, with even teeth, and he was snot-eyed.
