The Major Oak: A new chapter for a legend of Sherwood Forest | RSPB

The iconic Major Oak in Sherwood Forest has failed to come into leaf this spring, despite tireless efforts to improve and prolong its life. Experts now believe it has died. Thought to be 1,200 years old, woven into the legend of Robin Hood, and loved by generations of visitors, the Major Oak’s legacy will continue to play a key role in our cultural heritage. It may not look the same, but the Major Oak will carry on being an invaluable stronghold for nature and the knowledge we’ve gained by caring for this beloved tree will help protect other ancient trees at Sherwood and beyond. 0:00 - Introduction 0:16 - Update on the Major Oak 0:51 - Why the Major Oak declined  3:33 - Living beyond 900-years-old 4:45 - Superstars of biodiversity 5:31 - Significance of ancient trees 6:25 - Legacy of the Major Oak 8:01 - It's not an end Find out more - https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happeni...
