The Uffculme Prom 2022

The glitz and glamour of the prom was a spectacle enjoyed by all Uffculme School leavers on Friday, when the red carpet was rolled out at Oake Manor for a celebration to mark the end of exams, and the end of five years together. From supercars, to tractors, an ice cream van and even Batman, and Superman, students put on a show for proud parents and teachers watching on; in what has become a right of passage for pupils leaving the classroom and onto the next chapter of their lives. Freya Gray, head girl of Uffculme said: “It’s fantastic to be here this evening, the exams have just finished, and this is a great way to end the year with everyone together with parents too, it’s been lovely. “I didn’t expect so many people clapping and everyone turning out, it’s a wonderful atmosphere and a great way to say goodbye to everyone. “It’s such an important event for us. You don’t realise how much these people shape your lives, from teachers, and friends. It will be nice to say goodbye to everyone before college.” She added: “A lot of effort goes in to getting ready for the prom night. You don’t realise, we’ve been involved in some of the planning too, and that side of it is enormous in terms of choosing and making all the decisions. “School has been amazing at supporting us but it’s been a really hard few years, so it’s nice to have this night as we always hoped it would be.” Joe McQueenie, head boy added: “It’s an important day for everyone, it’s a final send off, and good to have everyone here, you can’t ask for more. It’s been brilliant to see all the supercars, tractors, and the lot. “Seeing what’s happened over the last few years, it’s great to being everyone together especially after the pandemic. “So much effort goes in to getting the prom organised and arriving in style, from getting the disco, and deciding what food we’re eating, and especially the transport. It’s amazing how much everyone puts in.” For staff, a perfect way to relax and celebrate their pupils development from children into young adults. Lyndsey Poortman, deputy head said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for these young people who have worked so hard over the last couple of years. They’ve had a real tough time of it, they’ve missed a lot of school, but have been amazing over the last couple of weeks, they have done really well with their exams, and have an opportunity here to get dressed up and have a brilliant time. “They all look amazing, there’s some quite incredible arrivals this year, and we’re so proud of them. It’s quite the spectacle.”
