Entre Hilos: Norbert Elias, "El proceso de la civilización"
In this second episode of the season dedicated to Sociological Theory and Thought, sociologist Daniel Chernilo and lawyer Francisco Castillo discussed The Civilizing Process by Norbert Elias. Originally published in 1937, this book explores how individuals transform their private habits and how society accepts, rejects, and shapes these changes. Through an analysis of textbooks that sought to educate the upper classes in hygiene and table manners, Elias demonstrates that modern life has become both more hygienic and more regulated.
