Subimos la PIEDRA DEL PEÑOL - Guatapé Antioquia

The Peñol stone is recognized in Colombia for being an important tourist attraction in the country. It is a gigantic monolith, which means that it is a large block of rock that is one piece in its composition and that is considered monumental with a height of approximately 220 meters from the surface. There are many Myths and Legends about this gigantic stone. Some say that the stone was worshiped by pre-Hispanic communities due to the different archaeological finds found in the area, others say that the immense rock is just the tip of a meteorite, also that It is a volcano that cooled down a long time ago and it is even a strategic place for aliens. There is also a legend that tells that the cracks in the stone are the product of an ax blow from the devil with the purpose of knocking it down because he never agreed with which the stone was visited. but the truth is that La Piedra de El Peñol is only a small part of a rocky mass, formed inside the earth's crust millions of years ago and which stands out due to erosion and tectonic efforts. In July 1954 the stone was climbed for the first time by Luis Villegas, Pedro Nel Ramírez and Ramón Díaz. The story goes that the village priest said: It seems strange to me that since the discovery of America a man capable of climbing the stone has not appeared or it could be that the men of Guatapé are from the family of the toads because the toad does not climb stones, This awakened in Don Luis Villegas the desire to climb it, a desire that he had cultivated all his life. The next day Don Luis convinced Pedro Nel and Ramón Díaz and they went out in search of the top of the stone, they took an 8-meter bamboo ladder, hammers and ropes and the cold cuts to calm their hunger. little by little they were embedding sticks under pressure between the sides of the crack in the stone At the end of the first day they had only managed to climb 20 meters, after going down and resting all night the next day they collected logs to continue their ascent with the dream of reaching the top. Finally, on July 16, 1954, after five days of risking their lives in vertical terrain, Luis, Pedro and Ramón reached the highest point of the Stone. hoisting a shirt in victory sign.
