Living with OCD can feel like dealing with an invisible emergency all day. Your mind may be checking, analysing, reviewing, searching for certainty and trying to make anxiety disappear. Although other people cannot always see this internal struggle, it can leave your mind and body feeling completely depleted. In this episode, I explore the hidden energy cost of OCD and anxiety, including how the brain uses energy, why thinking alone may not explain the exhaustion, and how prolonged stress, rumination and resistance can keep the nervous system responding as though danger is still present. We also look at the difference between spending your energy fighting thoughts and feelings and gradually learning to redirect that energy towards the life you actually want to live. Most importantly, this is not another reason to criticise yourself or panic about rumination. The invitation is to respond with greater compassion, recognise how hard your system has been working and slowly practise a less exhausting relationship with uncertainty and anxiety.
