For 14 years, students at James S. #Rickards High School knew how to find their principal. He wore a bright orange safety vest. Every single day. And he never missed a day walking students across the crosswalk. He ate lunch with them, attended their games, and every afternoon, he would be at the bus ramp to send them home. He was constantly visible. Over time, the vest Mr. Cook wore took on a deeper meaning. It was about presence and love. And even though Mr. Cook is retiring, he isn't going to turn his vest back in. He's taking it home to frame it. That's how much it meant to him. Our cameras captured his last days on campus, including the moment students surprised him by unveiling a “Cook’s XING” sign at the crosswalk he walked them across every morning.
