Horse and riders rescue a baby zebra on our Tuli horse riding safari in Botswana, Africa.
Whilst on our Tuli horse safari in Botswana with 5 star eventers Laura Collett MBE and Will Rawlin and Alice Dorman and Georgia Hatton-Brown, we had the most incredible experience. At one of our stops to look at the flooding Motloutse river, a tiny zebra foal came trotting up the bank towards us. It must have fallen in the river upstream and had been washed down stream. Miraculously, it had managed to pull itself out of the water on to the bank. Bewildered, soaked and dazed, it walked right up to the horse riders and horses. It stood there for a few moments and then staggered up to Tanya with her camera. As it passed her, it seemed to hear the hoof beats of Rupert’s horse, Cefas, climbing over the rocks. The foal immediately moved towards Cefas and climbed up the rocks to join him. We can only imagine, it thought it had heard its mother? The rest of the riders followed and the little zebra trotted along with the ride. From the top of the rocky ridge, Leo could see two other distressed looking zebra on the other side. They must have been the foal's parents. The only way to get to the two zebras was by going across and around the rocky hill. The zebra foal came with the ride, and walked amongst the horses. It constantly looked to Cefas for a lead. But once we reached the bottom and other side of the rocks, the zebra started to trot off in the wrong direction!! Although the riders tried to lead the foal in the right direction, towards its parents, it cantered off. Tanya, Laura and Ponthso stayed with the foal in the filming vehicle, whilst the riders went to see if they could encourage the other two zebras to go in the direction of the foal. There were some tense moments, while we waited to see whether the foal and parents would join up. Watch to the end to see what happened! What an incredible experience! This was filmed whilst on our Tuli Horse Safari on Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. (No animals were harmed during the course of this filming.)
