My lemon tree is not growing well, growing slowly and not producing many new shoots, with yellow leaves, burnt leaves, and variegated leaves. I've watered and fertilized it, but nothing has improved. I've had many farmer friends ask me about this symptom. This symptom is collectively called nutrient deficiency. There are three main causes of nutrient deficiency in plants: 1. Lack of moisture. Insufficient soil moisture prevents plants from utilizing nutrients in the soil, especially surface moisture, because the fine roots, or feeding roots, are concentrated in the surface. If plants lack moisture, they can't utilize nutrients, leading to nutrient deficiency. 2. Insufficient soil nutrients. Soil nutrients are very important. Good soil should contain a diverse range of nutrients. And there's enough of it, especially the main NPK elements. I use a method of making 2 parts compost and 1 part topsoil. If the soil pH is not right, the soil will not release nutrients, preventing the plants from fully consuming them. They will only be able to consume about 10% of the soil, resulting in a lack of nutrients. The plant may not die immediately, but symptoms include stunted growth, yellowing leaves, burnt leaves, mottled leaves, and burnt spots. This can be corrected with this method. If the acidity is too high, use alkaline aloe vera powder.
