"Why choose between Holy Week and Pilar when in Calanda you can have both?" Lorenzo Castañer Sauras posed this rhetorical question from the podium in his speech as the sponsor of the Pilar festivities. He uttered it Saturday night at the presentation of the Fiesta Queens, "the real stars." The jota says it all: "the best comes out for Pilar," and, of course, in Calanda they know this and practice it because they have everything prepared for one of the biggest weeks of the year. The night began to the sounds of the Gaspar Sanz Musical Association, which set the pace for the floats as they advanced in procession to the Plaza de España. The outgoing and incoming Queens descended from them and, along with the sponsor, signed the Town Hall Book of Honor in a simple ceremony in the plenary hall, just as their predecessors did the previous year.
