UPND Alliance Defends Foreign Reserves as Strategic Asset

By Mark Ziligone UPND Alliance member and New National Party President Dr. Nevers Mumba says the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance is not prepared to govern, citing what he described as a lack of understanding of basic economic management. Dr. Mumba told a UPND Alliance press briefing in Lusaka that recent statements by Tonse Pamodzi leaders on foreign reserves exposed a dangerous misunderstanding of how a country’s economy is managed. He stressed that reserves are a strategic national asset and not an expenditure account to be consumed by any government, warning that attempts to spend them would put Zambia’s economic stability at risk. Meanwhile, UPND Alliance Council Chairperson Charles Milupi said the alliance remains the country’s oldest, largest, and most successful political alliance. He emphasized the need for full adherence to the Constitution before, during, and after the August elections to ensure peace.
