REASONS WHY YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHANGE / REMOVE THE MAIN HEAT EXCHANGER: The first reason why you might need to change the heat exchanger could be that it is leaking. If the heat exchanger has failed then it could be leaking water into the boiler or through the condense pipe (your boiler will keep losing pressure). The second reason why you might need to change the heat exchanger could be that it is blocked up. Over time the metals in the heating circuit sludge up (combined build-up of rust and dirt breaking off from copper pipes and radiators), it is possible for this sludge to block up the heat exchanger. If this were to happen the boiler would keep over heating as the water is not flowing properly. Sometimes when the boiler is operating you will hear loud banging noises coming from the heat exchanger. If the heat exchanger is blocked, you can try take it out and flush it through or you can replace it.
