S-Bahn Berlin: Die Strecke der S15 zwischen Hauptbahnhof und Wedding im Juni 2026

A new tunnel platform has been opened at Berlin central station for the new suburban train line S15. On the level above the lower platforms you find signs indicating the way to underground and suburban trains. When you walk along there, you reach the platform of underground line U5 first. It's the western terminus of U5 since some years. The way on to the tunnel platform for suburban trains is not so easy to find. There are not many signs in June of 2026. From the northern end of the underground platform you have to walk further north, passing through a large access hall. At these passages there are signs leading to track 22 for suburban trains and to the exits at Europaplatz and Invalidenstraße. A large waiting area with many seats is located at the other side of the passages. During daytime S15 trains run every 10 minutes between Berlin central station and Gesundbrunnen. Stairs and an elevator lead to the temporary platform. In some years this platform will be replaced by a longer one, nearer to Berlin central station. There is a second track along the temporary platform but this side is closed by a fence. The route is part of the project S 21. A second tunnel for suburban trains will be built in Berlin. Construction work is, however, delayed due to various obstacles. Until the entire tunnel is completed, this section shall provide better connections between central station and the northern quarters of Berlin. So S15 runs between Gesundbrunnen, Wedding and central station with trains consisting of 4 cars. The suburban train line leads in northwestern direction first, running parallel to the tracks for long distance trains. It crosses Perleberger Straße on an arch bridge and then passes below the elevated tracks for long distance and regional trains. East of Tegeler Straße it passes under the inner track of the circle line in a tunnel and then joins the circle line a bit west of Wedding station.
